CASTING ISSUE + HOW WE DEALT WITH IT (1)

Casting Issue 1 + How We Dealt With It.

Our first major issue was when all females (including our backups) didn't want to be in our sequence. This meant that we had to find a new set of mains and backups from staff outside of the theatre department.

When talking to Mike, he suggested that we use Susannah from the dance department as she has acted in previous opening sequences, has the performance ability for the demanding role, and owed him a favour anyways (this was helpful as adults would not be comfortable with the funnel scene). He showed us an example of what she has acted in before:

Once watching her work, our group were extremely happy with the solution, so I went ahead and e-mailed her (she agreed to it verbally):

As a backup, I emailed a brilliant actor in my theatre class, Hana, using the same template, and she was very much happy to be a possible actor:

However, I raised the issue with Mike that using a visibly younger girl could make our sequence controversial, regardless of the adjustments we make to the narrative as viewers would only be seeing the opening.

As a solution, we thought of Nicky, my housemistress, as she has also acted in previous sequences and matches the character's physicality - we did not, however, e-mail her as we were told not to as Mike believed she would say 'yes' regardless as she has a good relationship with me.
